Who we areI'm Kirsten Bolitho.
This is my language heritage. My family and I have lived in Michigan for over a century, but that doesn't mean there isn't a wealth of language diversity to be explored. Synthesis statementSingle languages shift vastly over time and space, but even when these differences seem large it is possible to work through them for mutual understanding with patience, persistence, and passion.

Project PurposeIn undergrad, I developed a strong interest in language acquisition, learning, and instruction. I studied English literature and writing, Spanish language and literature, and methods of teaching English as an additional language.
Graduate studies in language and literacy teaching has led me to this project. The goal of this study is to discover how centuries-old language use has developed and changed. To complete this project, I am indebted to my uncle Dale Hengesbach, who previously compiled genealogical information about the Schoen family. I utilized this information as a starting point to research the languages and dialects of my ancestors. |
